RIP Earl Palmer

I had forgotten that we had lost one of the seminal drummers in all of rock-n-roll history when Earl Palmer died recently. Mike Finnigan at CrooksandLiars remembers him well and writes a post about him better than I could.

I agree with Mike and want to add that he expanded himself on the musical map to include some great swinging lounge music (in fact, one of the only hits he had on his own was the whimsical tune “Percolator Twist“) and terrific soundtrack music as evidenced by this Jack Nitzsche-produced “Bank Robbery” from The Hot Spot. Featured with Palmer is Miles Davis, John Lee Hooker, Roy Rogers, Tim Drummond and Taj Mahal. Holy shit! What a gig!
