Stephen Baldwin makes a promise I hope he keeps

First, let me say sorry for the delay in posting. I just moved to a new apartment in Chicago and hope to get myself back in the groove of posting goofy nonsense you need to know here on DamnThatOjeda.

Now: “Actor”-turned proselytizer for Jesus on 9/11 Stephen Baldwin  blathers on Laura  Ingharam’s show about his support for McCain and how he’ll leave the country if Obama wins.

This is his entire list of acting achievements released thru 2008. Honest to God, please take a moment and search it. With the exception of perhaps 4 or 5 worthy films/TV shows, do you see any justification for taking his threat as a serious blow to acting? Will your heart weep because he won’t be in the country for any more Flintstones sequels?

Adding even further hilarity, Laura “who-the-hell-listens-to-her-anyway” goes through a list of Hollywood has-beens who support McCain (including the ever-predictable names of Jon Voight and Sylvester Stallone) as some sort of indication that Hollywood is actually pretty split on this election. And what’s with emphasizing Wilford Brimley? Is she hoping to unite the oatmeal eater demographic?

  1. Taylor says:

He was joking you idiot and you did just what he predicted. He predicted that the press would have “fun” with his comments and all of you liberals are working overtime presenting what he said as a promise.

  2. Baldwin should be grateful he’s even being mentioned anywhere, given his list of “accomplishments.” If you’re a fan, you should be pleased he’s getting airtime somewhere. If he were a more serious actor, he’d stand a much better chance of having his comments plastered in a helluva lot more places than just The Huffington Post.

As for the irony, I could care less. Such grandiose statements have been made previously, jokingly or not. I remember Michael Moriarty seriously considering leaving the country after going through a rant about then Attn General Janet Reno. Not long after he made a truly pathetic “comedy” called “Cowboy’s Run” in which this once great actor looked unbelievably wasted in virtually all his scenes.

That old “I’m leaving the country, if…” is really not much of a smart thing to say, jokingly or not, no matter who on the political spectrum says it. It emphasizes laziness in a person’s duty as a citizen to get involved, so it makes Baldwin look even smaller than his acting resume makes him out to be.
