Jimmy McGriff

After a lengthy illness, Jimmy McGriff passed on at age 72. His name would generally come up second (only after the late, great Jimmy Smith) as a jazz/blues master of the Hammond B3.  He recorded for a number of labels over decades, but he’s probably most known for his take on “I Got a Woman” for Sue Records in the early 1960’s. All his tunes for that label are great as is the following tune, “Bug Out,” on Blue Note:
