RIP Soul Singer Al Wilson

Wilson was best known for the smash hit Show and Tell from 1973, however I like a few of his other tunes better–most notably the plaintive Do What You Gotta Do and the song that remains a classic of Northern Soul, The Snake, one of the most bizarre of soul tunes from the 1960’s.  A combination of alluring sexual allegory and cautionary tale, complete with neo-Biblical references (she feeds the snake honey and milk), it’s found a continuous life with Northern Soul dancers and any musicians with a taste for the strange (and humorous, too).
